Metal Gear Solid remakes

Konami has bravely announced that it still has absolutely no idea what to do with Metal Gear Solid after finishing Delta, which is refreshing honesty from a company that usually just releases a pachinko machine and calls it a day. The producer says they might do another remake or might try something new — translation: they’re waiting to see if Delta sells well enough to justify opening the office lights again.

As for Metal Gear Solid 4? Oh, that one’s “pretty hard,” apparently. Not because it’s absurdly tied to the PS3’s spaghetti-code architecture or because they’d have to put real effort into it — no, no — it’s just, you know, tricky. So instead of saying “we don’t want to spend money,” Konami politely explains the game uses “unique solutions,” which is corporate-speak for “the original devs did wizardry we can’t replicate without summoning Kojima back from exile.”

So for now, the future of MGS is in a thrilling state of “we’ll see,” which is Konami’s favorite development philosophy. Fans can look forward to more vague statements, more indecision, and maybe — just maybe — another remake if the accountants approve it.
