"Resident Evil: Requiem" advance review. A god system that allows you to freely switch between first-person and third-person perspectives! The sense of fear and immersion goes to a new dimension with the expressiveness of the SGF2025
Capcom will exhibit "Resident Evil: Requiem" at the "Summer Game Fest 2025" play day held in Los Angeles, USA from June 7, 2024. We were able to participate in the presentation of the game and try out the demo version at the event, so let's share the demo version of the report and share the information we learned from the presentation.
Hats off to the expressive power that draws you into the world view in the first few seconds & horror
First of all, let's tell you about the contents of the demo version and the impressions we got from it.
As it turns out, it's scary!
No, no, the reader can only think, "I guess." However, I braced myself and started playing, thinking that it would be scary. On top of that, it's scary! I was made to feel cold in my heart, so I will write about it, so please bear with me.
The demo version that I was able to play this time is a video that was played when "Resident Evil: Requiem" was announced, and it started from the scene where the main character, Grace Ashcroft, was detained. The texture of the skin, each strand of hair, and the water droplets running down the skin are realistically depicted, and at this point, I was already drawn into the screen.
After this, Grace Ashcroft unshackles on her own and can be operated from there. When he searches the room where he was detained, he discovers that his own blood had been drained while he was detained, and at this point, the atmosphere of unrest is already very palpable.
When I continued to search as it was, it turned out that this place was a Western-style building with a hospital-like atmosphere. In one room, you will find a book with illustrations that look as if they were drawn by a child.

This book contained a story of whether it was a monster or a monster. Feeling a bad premonition, he resumes his search, but all he has at hand is a lighter, which is not a good light, and an empty bottle that could be used for something. Scary.

As I continued to explore while scattering like this, I encountered a terrifying monster.

I can't go into details because it would be a spoiler, but the demo version ended when I finally finished my exploration while running away from the monster.
I'm sure I was able to play the part at the beginning of the game that shows the world view and monsters. It may have only lasted about 10 minutes, but it was more than enough to draw you into the world. The visual expression was so convincing, and the fear I felt from it was genuine.

It was a short play, but I still got a lot out of it. Speaking of the "Resident Evil" series, the parts such as exploration and puzzle-solving are also familiar elements. This time, too, the elements were well prepared, and the action of using the key obtained by searching every corner of the Western-style building was performed.

Although we didn't experience any combat-like combat, that seems to be due in large part to the character of the main character, Grace Ashcroft. The presentation introduced Grace Ashcroft as "a new type of protagonist with little combat experience." Naturally, as the game progresses, combat will come in as Grace Ashcroft grows, but we don't have any further information at this point.

You can now switch between first-person and third-person perspectives
The presentation was the same range of gameplay videos as the demo version, but there was a moment when the presentation was the most exciting. In this game, you can freely switch between first-person and third-person perspectives from the setting screen. The moment this was discovered, there was a cheer that shook the theater hall.
I also checked the switching of perspectives in the demo version, and I was able to realize the goodness of each.

First-person perspective
First of all, the first-person perspective, such as the isolated view of Resident Evil 7 Resident Evil and Resident Evil Village, is still very immersive.
It feels like Grace Ashcroft's field of vision is linked to the player's own, so you'll be immersed in Resident Evil: Requiem to the bone. If you want to get into the game world and share a strong sense of fear and accomplishment with Grace Ashcroft, you can play mainly from a first-person perspective.
Another advantage of the first-person perspective is that it is easier to focus on the place you want to explore. Therefore, I think that the first-person perspective will be good in terms of combat.

Third-person perspective
On the other hand, the third-person perspective (behind view) like "Resident Evil RE: 2" has the advantage of having a wide field of view because you can play the game from the perspective of following Grace Ashcroft with a camera. You can see behind and around Grace Ashcroft, which you can't see from a first-person perspective, so it's a very useful perspective when running away from or hiding from monsters.
On the other hand, in the third-person perspective, there is inevitably a sense that "Grace Ashcroft and I are strangers," so the sense of immersion is less than that of the first-person perspective. However, the fact that there are few parts that cannot be seen also has the function of alleviating fear, making it easier for people who are not good at horror games to play.

Summary
Since it was just after the announcement, there was not much information available at this point, but it was still a great benefit to know that you can freely switch between first-person and third-person perspectives. FPS / TPS, which perspective is better is a factor that varies greatly from person to person.
In this game, you can choose both of them, so you won't feel lonely like "If it was a first-person perspective (third-person perspective), it would have been easier to play and more enjoyable." Obviously, the user-friendly features are implemented, so you can tell that this game also takes good care of the ease of play. We look forward to more information in the future.
"Resident Evil: Requiem" is scheduled to be released on February 27, 2026. The PlayStation Store and Steam already allow you to register for your wishlist, so if you are considering purchasing it, be sure to register.
